Botox is a highly effective and safe purified substance used to treat those tough wrinkles caused by muscle contraction. What is BOTOX® Cosmetic? How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
Frown lines are caused by overactive facial muscles.  As our skin becomes less elastic over time, “dynamic” wrinkles from repetitive muscle activity can ultimately result in “static” wrinkles that are present even at rest.  These wrinkles often develop between the brows (glabellar lines), the outer eye area (crow’s feet), and forehead.  During treatment, a few tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered directly into the muscles that cause these stubborn lines.  BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the chemicals that cause these targeted facial muscles to contract, thereby temporarily relaxing them.  In this way, the wrinkles are softened, giving a more refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated appearance, while still appearing very natural.  

What is the treatment like?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe and effective, yet quick and simple non-surgical procedure.  Dr. Eliopoulos places a few tiny injections into the specific facial muscles which are causing those unwanted lines.  The treatment is very tolerable and no anesthesia is required.  There is no downtime.  Localized redness or swelling typically resolves in less than 1 hour.  Patients may occasionally develop temporary bruising which can be covered with makeup.  Ideally, avoiding aspirin-like products prior to your treatment and excessive heat, sun, alcohol, or exercising right after your treatment can minimize the chance for bruising.  You can expect to see results within 3-7 days after your treatment.  Typically, results can last 3-4 months.
