Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)
Gynecomastia is a medical condition which describes an excess accumulation of fat or glandular tissue in the male breast. This is a fairly common condition which can truly make many men feel self-conscious, both in certain types of clothing and without their t-shirts on. Health conscious patients seek the help of our skilled plastic surgeon for treatment of their over-developed breasts. Our state-of-the-art facility in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, makes use of the latest techniques and technology to attain excellence in results.
Surgery for Male Breast Reduction
Male breast reduction surgery helps remove fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts. Excess skin is also removed if deemed necessary to attain a flatter, firmer and better chest contour. The techniques we employ may include direct excision of excess glandular tissue and fat, and/or liposuction.
Liposuction slims and reshapes the areas of the body such as the chest, by removing excess or unwanted deposits of fat. The procedure is performed using a long, hollow tube called a cannula, with an opening at one end which is inserted through a very small incision in the skin. At the cannula’s opposite end, a vacuum pressure unit suctions unwanted fat away. The removal of excess fat from the male breasts helps improve the contour of the chest and makes patients feel more proportionate and self confident, both in and out of clothing. Along with traditional suction assisted liposuction, Dr. Eliopoulos also uses Smartlipo MPX Laser Body Sculpting, also known as Laser-Assisted Liposuction to treat gynecomastia. Smartlipo offers some nice advantages for treatment of gynecomastia because it can be done under local anesthetic, easily treats the more fibrous fat in the male breast, and can achieve some skin tightening as well.
