Photorejuvenation using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™)

Photorejuvenation is a safe, effective, and non-invasive method to improve sun-damaged skin and other facial concerns without any “down time” or interference with your active lifestyle.   IPL™ treatments can improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, brown spots, birth marks, facial spider viens, rosacea, red spots and other blemishes of the face, neck, chest, and hands.  Best of all, treatments can be tailored to an individual’s specific condition and skin type.

Our state of the art Lumenis One (IPL™) system is the pioneer and gold standard in Intense Pulsed Light therapy.

Lumenis invented IPL™ and the Lumenis One is a true fourth generation Intense Pulsed Light system with patented state of the art technology which optimizes power pulsing and light delivery to provide maximum results, comfort and safety.  Our practice believes in providing only the very best treatments for our patients and has made the investment in the Lumenis One.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) technology sends a broad spectrum of therapeutic light into the skin which can simultaneously treat multiple skin conditions.  Once the light reaches its target, it is then transformed to heat energy.  The light is absorbed either superficially by broken capillaries and dark pigment or deeper by larger vessels and collagen.  Dilated capillaries coagulate, pigmented lesions darken and then slough off and new collagen fibers are laid down, giving the skin a renewed and more youthful appearance.

The advantages of IPL™ Photorejuvenation are several.  There is no prolonged recovery time and the treatments take about 30-40 minutes.  There is no need for anesthesia of any sort and there is no associated downtime.  Patients report that the treatment feels like a rubber band snap.  The level of discomfort during treatment ranges from mild to moderate and does not last long.  A slight burning sensation may last for up to one hour after treatment.  You may experience pinkness of the treated area for a few hours immediately after the treatment, but makeup can be applied and normal activity can be resumed immediately.  Pigmented spots being treated may also darken slightly for several days before fading.

For maximum results, a series of four to six treatments may be recommended, depending on the number of conditions you are treating and the severity of the individual problem.

These treatments are separated by three to five weeks.  By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk.  After your initial series of treatments your improved skin should be maintained with continued skin care, effective home program and a single Photorejuvenation treatment every three to six months.
