With time, sun exposure, and other factors, collagen in your skin diminishes.  The skin becomes less elastic and loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear.  Thinning of the skin, and atrophy of the underlying fat in the face, result in visible loss of volume in and under the skin of the face.  The result is more prominence of the nasolabial folds (lines running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth) and marionette lines (lines running downward from the corners of the mouth).  We tend to also loose volume in the cheek area as well, which can create a more aged appearance due to the shadowing effect and also by contributing to skin excess at the nasolabial folds and below the eye area.
